Location:
El Quseir is a remote spot on the mid-southern coastline of mainland Egypt set along a beautiful fringing reef.
It is located 85 kilometers south of Safaga and 140 kilometers south of Hurghada. It is a quiet city with sandy beaches, clear waters and coral reefs and is well known for it's diving locations. The town's narrow streets are lined with colorful bazaars which have a decidedly Bedouin accent. An ancient caravan trail, to Qift in the Nile Valley, leads from El-Quseir through the mountains, passing several Pharaonic and Roman sites. A new road, directly to Luxor has increased the popularity of this quaint city.
El Quseir or Al-Quseir, in Arabic, translates as the “Smaller Version” of a place. Nevertheless, the position of the city once made it one of the major strategic ports of the Red Sea. El-Quseir, known in Ptolemaic times as the White Harbor, has a long history as one of the major ports of the Red Sea. Several civilizations during the past four thousand years have used this remote outpost on the Red Sea coast as a starting point to go exploring, expanding and trading with remote lands. From here, Queen Hatshepsut launched her expedition to the Land of Punt, as depicted in the reliefs in Deir el-Bahari temple at Luxor. Legend has it that the expedition returned with two live panthers and 21 incense trees.
The 16th century fortress of Sultan Selim, still standing in the center of town, shows al-Quseir's former strategic importance. Today, it is a quiet resort. .

Getting There
Egypt is a short flight, from most European cities it is only a 4 1/2 to 5 hour flight time with transfer to El Quseir about 90 minutes.
Fly direct to Cairo then either take an internal flight to Hurghada or Marsa Alam International Airport then go overland by bus or by car. Egypt Air now has several daily flights between the airports of Cairo, Marsa Alam and Hurghada.
Alternately,direct flights to Hurghada run from most major cities in Europe. Service taxis or buses (including Superjets) from Ahmed Helmi terminal, near Ramses Station or from abdel Mounim Riyad terminal, near the Ramses Hilton Hotel in Hurghada.
It is also possible to fly to Marsa Alam in Southern Egypt and transfer up to the resort. Marsa Alam International airport is about 35 miles from the resort location. Service taxis are readily available for transport from Marsa Alam to El Quseir.
It is best to book this transport from airport to resort while making your travel reservations but it is easy to obtain transfers upon arrival to the Marsa Alam or Hurghada airport. In the event that your transport reservation is made in advance, upon exiting the airport terminal you will find drivers waiting your arrival. This is easy as you have only to find the driver with your name on the card and he will know exactly where you need to go and the pricing will already have been fixed with your other travel bookings.
